We are an evangelical reformed Church for people living in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. The Presbyterian Church commenced as was established following the first Special Survey of the country areas in 1838. The first church service was held under a gum tree nearby in 1842. Orginally the congregation met in the Hotel - Scotch Thistle. Later a building was erected in 1847 and continues to be used today. The word 'Presbyterian' simply refers to the way the church is governed. We don't have one person in charge. We have a group of men called 'Presbyters' or elders. The Presbyterian form of government is found in countries all around the world.
SUNDAY WORSHIP:- The Church meets at 10 a.m. located at 38 Hutchinson Street Mount Barker. (Next to the NAB bank.)
A FAMILY CHURCH - for young and old alike.
For most of its 175 years the Adelaide Hills Church has been a family church. The church has grown to reflect its ever growing community - both for young and old alike. We continue to welcome people from all over the world – including South Africa, England and Scotland. We would love to have you as part of our ever growing family.
MUSIC - We sing some of the more contemporary songs composed in recent years and some of the great old hymns. We do use hymn books but many times we project the lyrics onto our data screen. We love people to lead and to assist in the music and singing or in many other ways as much as possible. We love the Word and aim to teach the whole counsel of God from the Scriptures.
TEACHING - Every weekend, our pastor gives a relevant, straightforward message that is based on Scripture, and is designed to be helpful in your everyday life. These messages will help you develop a growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ, and apply biblical teachings to your own life.
COMMUNION - The first Sunday of every month we celebrate communion together. Others who are members of other Presbyterian or Christian Churches are most welcome to share in the Lord's Supper. The juice and bread that we share, represent the body and blood of Jesus Christ and the life he gave up so that our sins could be forgiven.
OFFERING - We gladly offer our tithes and gifts on the Lord's Day (1 Corinthians 16:1-3). Ministries are supported by the free will offerings of its members. We do not ask visitors to financially support our work although they may still desire to do so.
AFTER THE SERVICE - Join us for refreshments and for you to meet other people. It is also a time for you to ask questions about our church and the opportunities to be involved and be built up in the faith.
